In today’s world English has become a global language. Speaking or writing in English is a matter of global interest these days for it is now a requirement for being able to communicate with the outer world. Besides, people in the Business world, as well as the corporate world, need to grab the language in order to expand their reach to other countries even continents as well. In most cases, people are seen hurrying with the issue for they expect a fast improvement in their speaking as well as writing in English.
So, with a view to do so and to do it faster you need to follow certain facts and of course the right strategy. By following these tips you will improve and even master the language in two to three months.
The first thing you need to have is an unmixed passion to reach your goal. The most important thing you have to have is emotional engagement with your desire to learn English quickly. You won’t achieve success if you aren’t passionate enough. Yes, you need to practise as much a day as you can.
You need to be energetic and feel the language by heart for emotional engagement plays a significant role in achieving a goal. Passion is the only fuel that enkindles you to work hard to achieve success. Try to speak what you think and think what you speak IN ENGLISH.
Motivate yourself by thinking what and how your life might be as a fluent speaker and writer in English. This would have a great impact on you to have a good reason for working hard to achieve your goal.
2. Read everything you come across
You pass by a lot of things in English that you come across in your day to day life. Things could include magazines, emails, posts on social media, websites, a piece of literary work or a newspaper. No! Read them because you never know what is waiting for you in there. You might find that a lot of things are already known to you but the content will surely be full of new vocabulary allowing you to improve faster. Cricketers, for example, know how to play cricket, right? Then why do they involve themselves in regular practice? It’s all about practice. Practice makes you efficient, skilled.
Apart from that learning new words and expressions will enrich your vocabulary enabling you to express yourself more easily and fluently.
You can consider this book from Amazon. The book has very practical vocabulary building courses and exercises for beginner level English learners. In addition, just as I mentioned above you can relate to your everyday activities and practise through them in this course with recommended reading, writing and grammar practices. Online practice with free listening exercises is also available with the course.
3. Keep a Note of the New Words
Don’t just move on after reading. It’s a bit more important that you keep a handy notebook with you and whenever you learn a new word or expression, write down the context along with the word. Use the word in a sentence and note the meaning too. Sometimes you may find forgetting a certain word or phrase seems impossible but let me remind you, being a human being you are built to forget.
So, to prevent this you need to keep visiting your pages and go through the notes you have made time and again. This might save you some time too.
4. Increase Your Input
One of the keys to improving your English rapidly is to increase your English input as much as you can. Don’t waste your valuable time in reading grammar books and drilling exercises. It will do nothing than bore you and even it might frustrate you consuming your time. Spend the most of your time in either listening or reading in English.
Always carry a book or a newspaper with you and listen mostly to the online story lessons, news, audio articles (podcasts) readily available on the internet. You can also download the podcasts of radio news programmes and listen to them while traveling, cooking and so on.
Being a beginner you can begin with reading novels and short story books for children to make it easier for you to understand enabling you to grab the language faster at the same time.
5. Converse with real people
Being human beings we need language to express ourselves, to communicate with each other. It shows that you need to speak up to meet your needs. So, why not in English? Studies reflect that speaking a language helps to learn it far better than reading or writing practices. In most cases, people are found saying they can’t speak English but they can understand it.
Involve in conversation with native speakers. This would allow you to get acquainted with informal language exchange. Speaking ability can also be improved through regular listening and reading practices. In fact, while conversing with an English speaking person you are actually listening to him and trying to emulate him in your own way.
6. Be One of Them
You won’t be able to speak fluently if you aren’t confident enough. You have to be one of them and pretend to be a native speaker. Forget about your mistakes. Don’t bind yourself to a limit for you never know what your limit is.
But, at the same time read a lot and call up what you have learned today. There is always something to learn anew. Believe me, you’ll continue to improve your skills if you just keep on practising.
7. Social Media and Online Friends
Be friends with people who post in English on the social media platform. Get engaged with their posts once or twice a day such as making comments and replies. Try surfing blog posts, e-news, e-magazines in English. Such activities would enable you to increase your interaction in English as well as develop your communication skill.
YouTube channels (English), Video tutorials on any topic of your interest can also be very helpful to speed up your learning.
8. Be Inquisitive
You must be very curious if you want to achieve your goal faster. Just as I did, in the beginning, I would repeat that you have to make queries and the mother of queries is the eagerness to learn something. Your curiosity would make you learn the language faster and it will polish you up over time. The more problems you’ll face, the more curious you should be. The more curious you’ll be the more problems you’ll solve. The more problems you’ll solve, the more knowledge you’ll gain. Do it both online and offline. Place your queries on language websites, blogs, learn from other learners and share your views with them. You’ll gain a ton of knowledge in a couple of months. Go ahead.
9. Look for a Not Too Big Grammar Book
Grammar books are meant to explain all the minute logics a language follows along with their exceptions. But they are not always easy to understand. You’ll forget them quickly even if you understand and try to remember them.
So don’t be so conservative regarding your grammar at your beginning stage. Be patient and refer to a beginner’s level book quite often. Blend your listening, reading and speaking in English with a bit of grammar practice each day. This will help you learn English faster rather than consuming your valuable time in pointing out the grammatical errors out.
At a subsequent stage of your learning process, you will feel the need for the knowledge of grammar yourself. Then you’ll know where to look for it too. But let me tell you knowledge is limitless but memory is short-lived.
Another perfect coursebook that I should mention here is the “Living Language English – Complete Edition” by Erin Quirk, from Amazon. It’s a collection of three coursebooks with nine audio CDs including free online learning facilities and interactive quizzes. Based on linguistic science this multimedia programme is designed to teach beginners and take them to an advanced level. Apart from that, any language speaker can flourish his or her English with this course. You can try it:
Don’t let yourself down if you face a difficulty as it poses challenges to almost all the non-native speakers at some point. Giving up is very easy compared to accepting the challenge with an open mind. You have nothing to lose. So don’t give up. Rather, erase all the ideas, words and phrases that make you feel “I can’t do it” from your mind. See the progress you have made and feel the positive side of the fact, the other side of the coin. Nothing in this world is always easy. Keep yourself saying that you might be slow but you are improving every day. Think of your early stage and be happy that you are now much better than you were a couple of months ago.
By for now and have a nice time
